Hindi text-to-speech tips: short sentences, clean punctuation, and a real test

Part of the guide: Hindi Voice Guide
These Hindi text-to-speech tips help Hindi and Hinglish scripts sound clear in Syllivo. Scripts sound best when they are written for listening, not just for reading, and a few habits make a real difference without requiring a special voice. If you have not picked a voice yet, start with choosing a voice by characteristic.
Write short sentences
Long sentences with several clauses are hard to follow by ear. Break them into short sentences with clear pauses. If a sentence feels long when you read it aloud yourself, it will feel longer in generated speech.
Keep punctuation clean
Use full stops, commas, and question marks the way you would in normal writing, and avoid clusters of symbols, abbreviations, and mixed punctuation. The app expands numerals and currency for you, but a clean script still produces cleaner pacing than a script full of shorthand.
Devanagari or Hinglish — pick one per passage
Devanagari Hindi and Romanised Hinglish are different inputs. Mixing them sentence by sentence can make pronunciation uneven, especially with a voice built mainly for English. Choose one style for a passage, generate a short test, and only then run the full script.
Always test a short passage first
Before generating a long script, generate one paragraph and listen. Check whether words are clear, whether pauses land where you expect, and whether the voice suits the script. Hindi support is partial for some voices, so a short test on your own text is more useful than any general claim about a voice.
If a passage sounds wrong, change the script first
Most unclear passages are fixed by rewriting, not by changing settings: split the sentence, spell out a tricky abbreviation, or replace a number with words. If the same passage still sounds wrong after rewriting, try another voice set and test again.

Do I need a special voice for Hindi?
No single voice is perfect for Hindi everywhere, and Hindi support is partial for some voices. Try Fast or Custom Voice first, test a short passage on your own text, and pick the voice that sounds clearest for that script.
