Choosing a voice by characteristic, not by a made-up personality

Published · Last updated

Part of the guide: Choosing a Voice Guide

Choosing a voice in Syllivo starts with what is verified about it, not with a personality label. Voice names here are deliberately plain: they describe only what is verified about a voice, so you are not choosing based on a label nobody measured. For the full picture of how these voices run, see how on-device voice generation works.

The everyday voices

These voices are named Male 1 to Male 5 and Female 1 to Female 5. The number is the official preset number for that voice. If you need a quick draft, start with Male 1 or Female 1 and change the number only if you prefer how another number sounds on your own script.

The American and British voices

These voices are named by accent and official name, for example Bella — American Female, Adam — American Male, Emma — British Female, and George — British Male. The accent part tells you which English variety the voice was built for. One voice has no personal name and is shown by its characteristic only: American Female.

Your Voice, from your own recording

Custom Voice has no preset voices at all. It works only from a reference recording you supply, between 3 and 30 seconds, with a single speaker in a quiet recording. The profile you create keeps your chosen name, and generation uses that recording's voice. If you do not retain the source audio, you will need to re-create the profile before generating again.

A note on Hindi

Hindi support is partial for some voices. A voice built for English will not magically become a perfect Hindi voice, and this blog will not claim otherwise. For Hindi scripts, try Fast or Custom Voice first, listen to a short test on your own text, and pick the voice that sounds clearest for that script rather than assuming one voice fits every language.

Frequently asked questions

Why are there no warm, deep, or cheerful voice labels?

Because those qualities were never measured for these voices. Inventing them would mislead you, so Syllivo shows only verified characteristics: gender and number, or accent and official name.

Which voice should I try first for Hindi?

Try Fast or Custom Voice first, and always test a short passage on your own Hindi text. Hindi support is partial for some voices, so a short test beats any general recommendation.

What if I want my own voice?

Use Custom Voice with a reference recording you own or have the right to use: 3 to 30 seconds, a single speaker, in a quiet recording. If you do not retain the source audio, you will need to re-create the profile before generating again.
