Fast vs Quality in Syllivo: which voice mode fits your script

Part of the guide: Choosing a Voice Guide
Fast vs Quality is the first choice you make in Syllivo after picking a voice, and it is simpler than it sounds: Fast is the quicker voice mode, Quality is the higher-fidelity voice mode, and both run entirely on your device with no character quota and no per-generation quota. The wrong choice costs you time, not money — generate a long script in the wrong mode and you either wait longer than you needed to, or you get a draft-quality result where you wanted a final one. This guide explains when each mode fits, so you can decide in under a minute. If you have not picked a voice yet, read choosing a voice by characteristic first, then open Studio and use the steps below.
Fast: the mode for drafts, tests, and quick listens
Choose Fast when speed matters more than the final polish. It is the right mode for testing a script, checking how a passage sounds, trying out a new voice, or generating a quick listen for yourself. Because it is quicker, it is also the kinder mode for a weaker phone or a low battery: less waiting, less heat, less strain on the device.
Fast also has a steps setting in Settings, which trades speed against detail — fewer steps means a faster result, more steps means a more careful one. You do not need to tune this on day one; the default is sensible. But if a Fast generation ever feels too rough, raising the steps before regenerating is worth trying before you switch modes entirely.
Quality: the mode for audio you will share or keep
Choose Quality when the finished audio is the point: narration you will publish, a story you will listen to properly, or any recording you want to keep. Quality has no steps setting — it simply takes the more careful path — and it is the mode to reach for once a script is settled and you want the best result your phone can give.
Quality is also the lighter first download, which is why Settings suggests trying it first on a new device. Whichever mode you install first, the voice files download once and stay cached, so later generations do not re-download them. If a first generation seems slow, check whether it is still on this one-time download before blaming the mode or your phone.
Decide in 30 seconds: preview both, then test short
The fastest way to decide is not to read about the modes but to hear them. Every voice has a Play button, in the Voices tab and in the Studio voice picker, and a preview is generated on demand from one short fixed sentence — never a shipped sample. Preview the same voice in Fast and in Quality, and the difference, if any, will be obvious on your own phone and your own ears.
Then follow the rule from the Studio workflow: test with a short paragraph before committing to a long script. A short test in each mode tells you more than any guide can, because the result depends on your script, your voice, and your phone together. If the short test in Fast sounds good enough for the job, use Fast and save the time. If it does not, Quality is one switch away.
Device Power changes the same choice
Your Device Power setting shifts the balance between the two modes. On Eco, the lightest setting, everything runs more gently and takes longer; on Full, a capable phone runs at its fastest, but a weak phone may heat up or slow down. If a generation feels slow, check Device Power before switching modes — the wrong power mode on a weak phone costs more time than any mode switch saves. As a rule: Eco pairs naturally with Fast drafts, and Balanced or Full pairs naturally with a final Quality generation on a phone that can handle it.
The honest limits of both modes
Unlimited here means no artificial character or per-generation quota; the practical limits are still your device's speed and storage, and a very long script on a weak phone will simply take a long time in either mode. Hindi support is partial for some voices, so write Hindi and Hinglish in Devanagari script for the best result, and test a short passage first rather than assuming either mode is perfect in Hindi. Neither mode needs an account, a purchase, or an internet connection once the voice files are cached — the choice between them is purely about time versus polish, on your own device.
Frequently asked questions
Should I always use Quality, since it sounds better?
Not necessarily. Quality is the choice when the final listen matters most, but Fast is the better tool for drafts, tests, and quick listens. Use Fast while a script is still changing, and switch to Quality for the finished version.
Does switching modes re-download the voice files?
No. Each mode's voice files download once, on first use, and stay cached on your device. Switching between Fast and Quality afterwards does not re-download anything.
I tried Fast and the result sounded rough. What should I try first?
First, try a short test with more steps in Settings, and check your Device Power setting — Eco on a weak phone is a common cause of a rough or slow result. If the short test still sounds wrong for a final recording, generate that passage in Quality and compare the two before committing to the full script.
Which mode should I install first on a new phone?
Quality, since it is the lighter first download and Settings suggests trying it first. Install it, preview a voice, run a short test, and add Fast when you want a quicker option for drafts.
